    Mighty God
    Posted by Sarah Walker
After spending a week soaking up the sunshine and incredible landscape of Hawaii, it’s not difficult to sense God’s power. As I walked to the top of craters and stood overlooking the mountains and the ocean, or slid through a muddy rainforest to get to a beautiful waterfall, I couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of awe for the creator of the universe. It wasn’t hard to agree with the prophet Jeremiah who wrote, “Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the

earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.”

While in these moments it’s easy to acknowledge and trust in an all-powerful God that can do anything, admittedly, there are often times when I just don’t see it. When I watch the news and see the pain, suffering and injustice in our world I find myself thinking, “God, where is your power?” When someone I love is sick or hurting and their situation seems hopeless, I find myself asking, “God, where is your power?” Maybe in the lead up to Christmas, you’ve been asking God this same question. This week we take a look at the promise of a Mighty God through the birth of the son. This baby, born in a manger was to be the mighty one, the all-powerful God. But through this name, we see that power is about perspective. While nothing is too hard for him, Jesus’ power is not to make life easy for us or to take away all of our problems. The promise in this name helps us to see instead that Jesus’ power is at work in us, for us and through us.

Join us this Sunday at 10am as we claim the promise of a Mighty God.

The promise of Christmas has a name.  But what's in a name?
